Starting Paleo

This afternoon I ran into a friend in the grocery store looking for sweet potato chips. I said hello and when she saw me she said that I was just the person she wanted to see. She and her husband are starting Paleo and she had some questions. I was happy to give her any information that I could; however, I was quick to let her know that I still have questions myself and that sometimes i have to call my fellow paleolithic friends to ask. Even if its just what's a good afternoon snack, or what can I put in my coffee so I don't have to drink it black. No question is a bad one. If you are starting Paleo and you have questions don't be afraid to ask. You are making a huge adjustment and improvement to your life and you are about to change the way you eat. If tomorrow is your day one, just know that you are about to embark on a journey that will forever change the way you eat and the way you view food. You are about to start feeling better than you have ever felt. I can tell you that when I started Paleo I needed to lose about 20 lbs of baby weight. It initially started as a diet for me and quickly changed into my lifestyle. It didn't take long for me to figure out that this is the way I have always needed to eat. Last night my husband and I went out to dinner with some friends. I decided to try something new and I ordered lamb. It came with whipped potatoes and zucchini. I asked for extra zucchini and no potatoes, but when my food came the lamb was sitting on top of a huge pile of whipped potatoes. I didn't say anything, but the waitress quickly noticed and apologized. She said, "are you allergic to potatoes or something?". I thought, I kind of wish I was allergic to them because yes, they looked delicious. But, after doing Paleo for a while they really don't even tempt me. I know that sticking to eating healthy foods is going to get me where I want to be in my health, and of course in my Crossfit. I know it sounds crazy but every time I want to cheat I immediately think of some awesome crossfitter and say to myself, I bet she's not eating sugar or carbs right now. So make the change and start tomorrow. Start eating to fuel your body and to make you a healthier and better person. You will never regret it.

Thank you for your honesty! I would love to hear about what you use in your coffee. Also, no white potatoes for you? I know it depends on the gym, but is Crossfit beginner friendly, especially for an overweight women. J am very attracted/curious about it, but very intimidated. Love to hear your thoughts–thank you!

      Hey-
I use coconut creamer in my coffe. They sell it in our grocery store next to the organic milk. And, no white potatoes, but as you see, we eat plenty of sweet potatoes.
About crossfit, I know it can look intimidating, and sometimes it is, but anyone can go. I know our gym is very open and welcoming to anyone who would like to try. All of the workouts can be scaled to your doing. I have seen people of all shapes, sizes, and age start crossfit. You can go as hard as you want, or you can scale as much as you want. Obviously in the beginning you would scale your workouts to what you are able to do and then everntually you could move up as you improve.
      Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the enouragement! I appreciate it! We actually have two Crossfit gyms in my town. I haven’t found an acquaintance that uses either one, so I don’t have any feedback on how they are. I am hoping to preview and whatever friendly vibe I feel, I’ll go with it. Thanks again.
